Morning Recovery started with the basic idea that you shouldn’t have to compromise between having fun and being productive. Fast forward one year since raising money on Indiegogo, we’ve donated $230,000 to the USC School of Pharmacy to formalize our commitment to research and drive novel applications for DHM beyond Morning Recovery. We’ve also announced the establishment of a Scientific Advisory Board comprised of leading doctors, scientists, and experts to work closely on our product development and stay on top of the latest research findings.  

So how did it all come to be? Let’s start from the beginning.

South Korea’s age-old secret: DHM. 

It all came about when our co-founder, Sisun Lee, went on a trip home to South Korea — a land where drinking culture is a part of life. After a late night out, he and his friends stumbled into a convenience store at 3 a.m. to stock up on bottled tonics to help end the morning misery after drinking alcohol. Sisun woke up the next morning and was operating at 110%.

Back in the United States, Sisun found nothing compared to the DHM drinks that saved his mornings back in Seoul. There was ibuprofen, water, and some old wives’ tales, but there was no market for liver-boosting supplements yet. In January 2017, he dove into research and connected with Dr. Jing Liang, a pharmacology research professor and expert in the ancient ingredient Dihydromyricetin (DHM) — a plant-derived compound that helps boost your body’s natural response to alcohol. In February 2017, Lee started creating samples based on the product specifications he compiled through research with Dr. Liang.

In early March 2017, Sisun enlisted a group of friends to test the effectiveness of the samples. With that came many late nights full of laughs, good times, and empty bottles. Each friend was asked to fill out a survey to report on the efficacy of the samples they were given. The survey results were extremely positive. The bleary-eyed symptoms that you normally wake up to after enjoying a few drinks were nowhere to be seen.

The inception of Morning Recovery.

At this point, Sisun knew he had a solid product but realized he needed more users, beyond friends and family, to test it out. He connected with an old colleague at Uber and now co-founder of Morning Recovery, Misha Frolov (pictured above with Sisun), to build and launch a website that garnered 20,000 orders in two weeks. Just like that Morning Recovery had a concentrated and influential community of early adopters. A few months later in July 2017, we hit 1000% of our initial funding goal and raised over $250,000 in pre-orders on Indiegogo during the month-long campaign. In late September 2017, we shipped our first batch of Morning Recovery to our eager customer base and the rest is history.

How it works.
